Words from the Great Chief
AHO, BRAVES OF THE MIGHTY CREEK!The Canaveral Nation’s camp-out (Pinewood Derby) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday was great according to King Snake (Charlie) and Silver Cougar (Bill) the only two (2) Creek in full attendance. In my opinion, correct me if I speak with fork tongue my fellow participants but the Creek needs to step it up in attendance at these Nation affairs. We (Charlie, Paul B, Bill and I) were asked frequently by several tribes; “Where’s the Creek!” Enough said about that! To start, camp set-up was a little tough for the crew (Bill and Charlie) as there were many events taking place at KARS this weekend so the Creek had to camp wherever a space was available. The arrival of the rest of the tribe started Saturday with Gray Wolf and Wolf Fang bringing coffee and doughnuts. As the morning move closer to race time the Lizards appeared with Orange Monkey , then the Dragons along with the Tigers followed shortly by the Wolves and John and Devin. Saturday at 11:45 AM brought the qualifying of the young brave’s cars with Ryan, Trip and Alec finishing and receiving ribbons for First, Second, and Third best times for the tribe. The young Creek braves will receive participation ribbons for racing. The Nation's Chief's Choice went to the guitar car beating out Paul (Wolf Fang) and Alec (Black Wolf) with their best interpretation of the Indian theme. Sunday a request was made by the Nation’s Chief to provide a head count this week from all tribal members who plan on attending t he state Pow-Wow. Also, Chief emphasized the cost will be a $15.00 ‘at the door cost’ per family. I believe they want cash only. Patches and tee-shirts will be available for order upon arrival at the Pow-Wow site. So far Charlie and I have committed to attend. Therefore, send me confirmation either by phone or e-mail. Let’s try and show the Nation that the Creek are not lost in the urban wilderness and will be strong in presence.

Derby Results

The mighty Creek converged upon KARS park last Saturday for the annual Pinewood Derby, a most favorite event for the Little Braves. The camping contingent was a bit thin, due to conflicts outside the tribe, as the Cougar and Snake families represented the Creek for the campers.
As another beautiful Central Florida day unfolded, more and more tribal families showed up, and at race qualifiers, we presented a worthy field of racers. The qualifiers took place at 1300, being 1:00 pm for you landlubbers, and the competition was fierce. We ran 3 heats, each car qualifying in all 4 lanes. The cars which qualified were in the low 8s. Qualifiers were Ice Lizard, Wild Cougar, and Black Wolf. Lizard Princess qualified in 4th place, and strong showings were placed by Devin, Tiger Tooth, both of the Dragons, Wolf Fang, and Rattlesnake.
For the finals, a little advice was gleaned from a Navajo racer, and we shaved some time off the qualifying times, however, the Creek was unable to wrestle any 1st 2nd or 3rd coup from the Nation’s event.
The tribe had a submarine lunch and enjoyed the beautiful weather, and discussed some upcoming events for the group. Another great Pinewood Derby campout has come to pass.

Father and Son create a winner
This month's meeting took place at the Lizard Lair in Cocoa Beach. We had a new member show up, as Ryan and Kai joined in the fun. Our primary activity was the creation of some SWEEEEEEEEET road racers for next week's Pinewood Derby. That marks the theme of the February campout at KARS Park for the annual derby. The Creek will be racing at 1115 for the preliminary elimination round.
We missed the Chief who was home rehabilitating from a gastro upset from some bad pemmican. He would've been proud to see his tribe in full construction mode. Cars were started, finalized, modified, and glorified. Additionally, the tribe roughed out the new Creek sign to be proudly displayed at the Nation activities, it is shaped like a canoe, fashioned out of cypress, sporting a rustic wood burn and Creek macho blue!!!!!!!!!!!! A crowd pleaser for sure.
Next week is the campout, details will be forthcoming from the Chief!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
